Confluence of Melancholy and Krunk

Impossible you say! How can these two disparate elements join forces? Well, check "Videotape Tomato Remix": http://www.thesixtyone.com/s/5OduI0zqhQf/

I like this tune because of its plaintive vocals and piano, yet it also has the ubiquitous wobbly bass and synth with the banging beat which is sometimes nice. I dig the blending of emotions and genres.

I first found the artist, Tom Ato, on the Sixtyone whose bio says:
"Tom Ato is a Knoxville based DJ/remix artist. House, Disco, Funk, Electro, Trance, Dubstep, Chip, DnB, hip hop, rap, rock, pop, mashups. Bang this in the club. Bump this at the party."
He's also deft with the pun as you'll see if you browse through his catalog.

Here's his official: http://www.djtomatomusic.com/

Believe it or not, I didn't even know this tune was originally a Radiohead song (stopped following them awhile back), so I had to go find it and give it a listen. It's on "In Rainbows" for those of you who are like me and don't follow them like they're the Next Coming. What I found was an excellent, lonely video (with the tune of course) that you can easily find on the internet- cheers.

CLLCT Artist Dave Merson Hess

I've been absorbing some unsettling and stellar atmospheric tracks written for film from an artist I found on the dandy little indie music site- the Collective Family (CLLCT for short).

The artist, Dave Merson Hess, has been at it for a decade scoring multiple films including the following (from his website):
"(1) the Drifter Pictures feature film PRESENCE (written & directed by Bryan Kramer and produced by Ashley C. Kramer) which premiered at the 2009 Seattle True Independent Film Festival. My score was called "haunting and evocative" by KUSF legend Ratso Russo--so cool to be complimented by the guy whose ear-opening "Groovie Movie Soundtracks" (now available in podcast form!) got me into film music in the first place; (2) Michael Rohrbaugh's Legacy, a dramatic short that premiered June 9th at the UCLA Festival 2009; and (3) Argyle Kabuki, an abstract animated film by the uber-talented Dax Norman that premiered at the Punto y Raya Festival 2009."
I've only listened to the music from the film "Presence", but was stirred by the droning, multi-textured sounds with mechanical, crackling beats and the judicious sprinkling of keyboard melodies, where the blurring of music and sound effects was an influence. Artists listed as influences include: DJ Shadow, Glenn Branca, Sonic Youth, Erik Satie, Ennio Morricone and Goblin, while the film itself is influenced by a favorite of mine- David Lynch.  As if that weren't enough, the artwork below is also from Hess and there is more at his website: http://davemh.com/

Find Me on Uvumi

I've made the move over to Uvumi which looks to be very good for the music community lost at the SixtyOne (edit: it IS very good).

Here is my band profile if interested- cheers.

Invisible Forces

Druids and secret rituals are creepy but sometimes necessary for certain low-budget flicks (found on a fantastic blog- Pasta Primavera):
